Matsumae International Foundation Fellowship 2026

The Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) Fellowship 2026 invites non-Japanese researchers from around the world to conduct research in Japan for six months. This fully funded fellowship aims to promote international understanding and cross-cultural exchange through research in science, engineering, and medicine.

Last Date to Apply: June 30, 2025

Duration: 6 months (between June 2026 and March 2027)

Eligibility Criteria:

• Non-Japanese nationality
• PhD (Doctoral degree) at the time of application
• Age 45 or below (born in or after 1980)
• Sufficient proficiency in English or Japanese
• Letter of acceptance from a host institution in Japan
• No prior long-term stay in Japan
• Must be employed in the home country and return after the fellowship

Stipend: JPY 220,000 monthly allowance. JPY 120,000 arrival fund. Round-trip airfare (economy class). Travel insurance. Study tour in Japan.
